“Rachel listened and was very perceptive when talking to my son. She offered a range of strategies using CBT and EMDR that he could use to help him when needed and he found them easy to use independently and extremely helpful.”

— PARENT, OF 12 YEAR OLD BOY

Assessment

If you would like to get in contact, please complete the online contact form or send me an email with further details about your/your child’s current problems.  I will explore whether I am the best person to help you and then if we are a good fit, we can arrange an assessment. The assessment process will span across two appointments.

The assessment process is an opportunity to find out more about you and have a greater understanding of your current difficulties.  I will be asking questions in relation to the problems you are currently having, how the problem has developed and how long its been going on. I like to start with a family tree to map out who is in your family.

“Rachel was extremely friendly and approachable from the start, along with maintaining her professional position. It is testimony that my son was happy to return to talk to her each week when talking to new people about his anxiety issues was not an easy thing. When he began seeing Rachel, the thought of going to school caused huge anxiety and negative emotions, when he finished his sessions along with a few other changes, his attendance was above 80% and he was just generally happier and more positive about life.”

— Parent. 12 Year Old Boy

If you are a young person I will be asking more about school and your experiences of schooling as well as questions around your friends, strengths and hobbies. I will be asking your parents about what you were like when you were younger and find out more about your developmental history.

Towards the end of the assessment process, we will then review how you have found the assessment. Sometimes, just talking about your problem to someone else and feeling listened to, can be a great help in itself.  You may have been struggling with these difficulties for a while, and having a space to talk about them for the first time, can be helpful. We will then discuss if you would like to proceed with therapy.

If you would like to have therapy sessions, we will think about what would be the most helpful therapy option for you, what goals you may like to work on and what you can expect from sessions.

Therapy

I meet with individuals for 50 minute therapy sessions.  At the start of the therapy sessions we can discuss how frequently we will meet – I meet most people weekly or fortnightly. We will then arrange a block of sessions with a review. I typically offer 6 initial therapy sessions with a review.  This is a good amount of time for us to build a rapport and for you to have a idea of the therapy journey  The total amount of sessions I see someone for varies greatly according to the person’s individual needs.

“I cannot recommend Rachel highly enough. I found her approach to friendly and relaxed which in turn made her very easy to relate to, for both my son and myself. She maintained a good relationship with both of us but my son always knew anything said was treated with the utmost confidentiality.

— Parent. 18 Year Old Boy

I use a number of evidence based, psychological therapies, including: CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement De-sensitisation Reprocessing), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and Systemic Psychotherapy.

Child and Adolescent Services

I have a wealth of experience of specialising in working with young people and their families. If you are a parent of a young person seeking help, I am here to offer a space for you as a parent or your child. With the work with the young person, it is a confidential space unless there is issues of risk, in which case I would need to share this risk with the parent.

Supervision

Supervision is a crucial part of our clinical work.  The British Psychological Society stipulate that we must have regular supervision as part of our professional guidelines and to ensure a high standard of care to clients.  It it is vital to have a space to reflect upon your clinical work.  Supervision provides a safe, confidential space to think about your practice.

If you are a Psychologist who is requiring supervision, I offer supervision, currently online via Zoom, a secure platform. I have completed my supervisors training with the University of Surrey and I am on the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors.

Many psychologists currently are in the process of seeking accreditation with different organisations. Psychologists keen to develop and have formally recognised their CBT skills, may be going through the BABCP Accreditation Process  - I can help with this.

“Rachel is a fantastic supervisor, she creates a safe and reflective space to think about developing formulations, assessing and managing risk and enhancing interventions.  Rachel is a highly skilled and experienced supervisor with a wealth of clinical knowledge.  In my opinion she provides the perfect balance between assisting her supervisees to move forward in their thinking, as well as giving recommendations drawing on her own vast knowledge of psychological theory and mental health.  I would strongly recommend Rachel for clinical supervision.

— Clinical Psychologist. Private Practice

“I have found Rachel’s supervision to be warm, supportive and helpful. She creates a reflective space where I can bring work dilemmas, and I feel listened to and well understood. Rachel is able to challenge me and help me to work more effectively within my chosen models of therapy,  as well as modelling supervision and therapy skills in a helpful way. I feel very well supported personally and the online format has been effective and convenient.”

— Clinical Psychologist. Private Practice

Clinicians training in EMDR may be wanting help and advice regarding EMDR accreditation and as an EMDR Europe and Ireland Practitioner, I am happy to help you with that process.

Her enthusiasm and ability to explain concepts coherently, her vast knowledge of the subject and creatity in applying it meant that I left every teaching or supervision session feeling energised and inspired. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for teaching or supervision in CBT.”
